Away Status. Graduate students pursuing their studies outside of the Houston area (Graduate students on "away" status) must be registered and pay tuition but are not required to pay the fees listed above, with the exception of the Information Technology Fee ($62.50/sem.).

Reduced Tuition - After six semesters of full-time study in one degree program (excluding the summer semesters), continuing graduate students enter a reduced tuition rate. The reduced rate, like standard rate, varies by department/program. Students who are admitted with a relevant master's degree, i.e. a master's degree from another university that counts toward a doctoral program at Rice, may become eligible for reduced tuition earlier than those entering a doctoral program without a relevant master's degree.
