Away Status. Students pursuing their studies outside of the Houston area (students on "away" status) must be registered and pay tuition but are not required to pay the fees listed above, with the exception of the Information Technology Fee.
Reduced Tuition. After 6 semesters of full-time study in one degree program (excluding the summer semesters), continuing students enter a reduced-tuition category of $1,096 per year ($548 per semester). Students who are admitted with a relevant master's degree, i.e. a master's degree that counts toward a doctoral program at Rice, may become eligible for reduced tuition earlier than those entering a doctoral program without a relevant master's degree. Semesters credited toward reduced tuition will be limited to one degree program. In extraordinary circumstances, the Office of Graduate Studies may consider petitions for exceptions.
