The payment plan is designed to enable students and parents to pay over the course of the semester. This option is available with the first billing cycle of each semester. The student or ‘Authorized User’ can elect the payment plan option and pay online. The only charges allowed on the payment plan are current tuition, fees, insurance and room and board. All previous balances and other charges must be paid in full by the due date.

The down payment required by the payment plan is 25% of the current tuition, fees, insurance and room and board, plus any unpaid previous balances and other charges. The down payment is calculated after financial aid. Financial aid funds CANNOT be used towards the down payment. The down payment is required by the due date listed on the billing statement. The remaining amount due on the account will then be split into three installments due during the semester. The installments will include a finance charge of approximately 1.67% of the remaining unpaid balance. Example: If the amount due after the down payment equals $5000, the finance charge is approximately $83.50 for the semester or three installments of approximately $1694.50 each. Bill Payment Suite will display actual amounts due before you complete enrollment in the payment plan.

After you enroll in the payment plan, you can view your scheduled payments on line. Monthly statements will be available on line in the Bill Payment Suite. There is a $35.00 late payment penalty for installment payments received after the due date. If mailed, please include the student ID on all payments.

If you chose not to pay on line and want to enroll in the payment plan, submit your payment along with a request for the payment plan to Rice University Cashier’s Office, P. O. Box 1892, Houston, TX 77251. The schedule of payments will be available on line only and email notices will be sent to students and ‘Authorized Users’ about payment due dates.
