Academic Advising

Major Advisors

Major advisors represent their respective academic department or discipline and are familiar with specific major graduation requirements. Typically they also have the most current knowledge of discipline-specific course offerings, curricular sequence, independent study projects, research and internships, professional organizations, current trends, graduate schools and careers related to the field. Major advisors, in consultation with departmental colleagues, have considerable autonomy over their curricula and major offerings. Major advisors have extremely valuable insight and are often underutilized.
