Away Status. Graduate students pursuing their studies outside of the Houston area (Graduate students on "away" status) must be registered and pay tuition but are not required to pay the fees listed above, with the exception of the Information Technology Fee ($60/sem.).
Reduced Tuition - After six semesters of full-time study in one degree program (excluding the summer semesters), continuing students enter a reduced-tuition rate. The reduced rate also varies by department. For entering graduates, the rate is $1,578 per year ($789 per semester). For continuing graduates, the rate is $1,578 per year ($789 per semester). For Architecture, Shepherd School, and Professional Masters in Natural Science and Engineering, the rate is $1,352 per year ($676 per semester). For Professional Masters in Natural Science who started in Fall 06, the rate is $1,300 per year ($650 per semester). Students who are admitted with a relevant master's degree, i.e. a master's degree that counts toward a doctoral program at Rice, may become eligible for reduced tuition earlier than those entering a doctoral program without a relevant master's degree. Semesters credited toward reduced tuition will be limited to one degree program. In extraordinary circumstances, the Office of Graduate Studies may consider petitions for exceptions.
